Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
- 2 cups fish or seafood stock
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- 8 oz cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 8 oz cooked crab meat or chunks of white fish
- 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon paprika (optional)
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Preparation Steps
Step 1: Sauté the Vegetables
In a large pot, heat butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, and celery, and sauté until the vegetables are soft and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
Step 2: Cook the Potatoes
Add diced potatoes to the pot along with the seafood stock. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10–12 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
Step 3: Add Cream and Milk
Stir in the heavy cream and milk. Heat gently, but do not boil, to prevent curdling.
Step 4: Add the Seafood
Add the shrimp and crab meat (or fish chunks) to the chowder. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until the seafood is heated through.
Step 5: Season and Serve
Add salt, pepper, and paprika (if using). Stir gently and taste to adjust seasoning. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley and, optionally, crusty bread on the side.
🍲 This creamy seafood chowder is rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. Perfect for warming up on a cold day or serving as an impressive starter for dinner, it’s a seafood lover’s dream come true.
